  Martial Arts Mentoring Program

Our Mission and What we Offer:

The mentoring program is really three programs rolled into one:

MentoringProgram.  Our Mentoring Program is much like the Big Brother/Sisters programs adopted by the United States.  Sensei Dave and Mrs. Armstrong provide positive role models for the students by dedicating time to interacting with them on a  weekly basis.

Academic Assistance Program.  Our Academic Assistance Programs focus is to ensure that students have the resources they need to develop good study habits, complete large projects, write quality papers, and organize their academic lives.  Mrs. Armstrong will assist our students with their academic goals in either a group or individual setting.

Martial Arts Program.  The Martial Arts Program is taught by Sensei Dave Armstrong five times a week at the Faith Martial Arts dojo.  Sensei Dave is a highly qualified martial arts instructor with over 15 years of martial arts experience and over 10 years of martial arts instruction experience.

Conclusion:

We believe that our program helps these young men and woman  achieve great success in life.

Who better to relate to these students than an individual who spent over eight years of his youth in juvenile detention centers, boys homes, and foster homes in Los Angeles  and San Bernardino Counties?  Sensei Dave benefited tremendously from a similar program adopted by a boys’ home in which he was living, and he is passionate about helping other young men and women faced with the same challenges he has faced learn to overcome the obstacles they encounter.

Mrs. Armstrong has a degree in English from The Colorado College, and is pursuing a Masters degree in secondary education.  She has worked in college admissions and tutored for a professional writing center for over two years.  She values education very highly and hopes to impart her love of knowledge upon these students.  This is a win-win situation; the young men and women will have all the necessary tools to ensure success in their future endeavors, and Sensei Dave and Mrs. Armstrong will have a chance to impact the lives of our brilliant future leaders.
